so, as i prepare for my trip home to new orleans for mardi gras weekend '08, the following thoughts are going through my head:
checklist:
-lil wayne, kanye west's new album, spank rock, 'low' by flo rida, chromeo, & the cool kids ['chu know, to get crunk in anticipation of the next five days of non-stop partying].. CHECK.
-shorts, t-shirts, sandals, sunglasses and other garb appropriate for 70+ degree weather.. CHECK.
-BOUNCE MUSIC MIX made on itunes and transferred to ipod [to get back into the new orleans frame of mind].. CHECK.
-bottles of malibu, bottles of cranberry juice, and my handy dandy flask.. CHECK.
-cell phone charger to make sure i don't get separated from my group in the french quarter or along the parade route without a means of getting in touch with them.. CHECK.
-wifey and fagbert to share it with.. CHECK.
-extra suitcase with which to bring back king cakes and bunny bread.. CHECK CHECK.
I AM READY TO GO.
it's that time of year again. what time? why, it's CARNIVAL TIME! duh. as lent approaches and we're faced with the prospect of giving up our vices until the celebration of our lord an savior jesus christ's resurrection [you know, easter], we take this time to PARTY PARTY PARTY to make up for those 40 days during which we will be on our best behavior.
are you buying this? even a little bit, maybe..?
well, it's mardi gras. carnival time. time to party. i personally go because.. well, because i've gone every year of my life since moving to new orleans when i was 3 [with the exception of the year immediately floowing katrina]. i go because it'd be a crime not to go. because mardi gras is just part of me and my culture. what can i say? cut me and you'll see that i bleed purple, green, and gold. ha! love it!
i'll take plenty of pictures and i'm sure i'll come back to houston with plenty of stories and hopefully a decent enough amount of residual happiness from being home without having to spend all my time 45 minutes away across the lake on the northshore and never venturing into the city itself [ahem, christmas].
i'm more excited about being back in my hometown [especially with keri] and just being able to feel the familiarity of everything again. i think that's going to be a really good thing for me right now. i'm actually excited. i'm happy at the thought of going back and eating good food. oh, the food is so good. i've actually gotten out of bed and put on upbeat music [gasp]. i looked through me closet and actually cared about what clothes i put into my suitcase. AND i'm going to flatiron my hair. oh mah gawd.
yes, a dose of home is just what the doctor ordered, i think. the only thing that would make it better.. well, it's not even a thing. it's a person. but that's another story, and that story will come soon [though not soon enough]. :]
aaaanyway, i've got clothes in the washing machine to put to dry and i've got unruly wavy hair to flatiron, so i will end my post here with a short list of things i'm particularly looking forward to.
the agenda:
[a work in progress]
-camellia grill
-rally's french fries
-copeland's spinach dip with the fried bowtie noodles
[oh my g-d, soo goood]
-cane's chicken fingers w/the sauce & sweet tea
-bunny bread
-KING MOTHERFUCKING CAKE
omfg. i'd gladly get the piece with the baby just to get a slice of mckenzie's king cake.
