i've always said the best folk music comes from the dutch

dear reader,

it's been so long, hasn't it? well, i've gotten enough requests for regular posts from friends and the like for my ego to be sufficiently stroked, and here we are. i wish i could say that i haven't been posting because my life has been so intensely exciting that i haven't had time, but in reality, i've just been running around doing random, mildly amusing things. during the time, i went to the masked ball at the met, which was fun and worth going because i only spent thirty bucks on the dress i wore that night.. if i'd spent say, hundreds of dollars on a dress, as i'm tempted to do whenever i get invited to semi-formal events and don't have to work within the confines of a college student's budget, it wouldn't have been as worth it because there wasn't even really any dancing. i mean, COME ON. what kind of ball doesn't have DANCING?? all in all, it was a fun evening. there was yummy finger foods- churros and some sort of pizza crust with jam- and an open bar of soda. i'd say the only downside to the evening was that the band they hired to play after the presentations was a bunch of white guys with dreadlocks playing reggae that was very difficult to dance to. i mean, come on, metropolitan museum of art. really?

and then there was the navy/marines rotc ball the following night. which was considerably more fun. when i was invited, i didn't realize that "navy ball" meant five hours on a classy ship sailing around the island of manhattan, up to the statue of liberty and back. being a southerner who'd never really ventured above that mason-dixon line, i'd never seen the statue in real life. only in those fancy movin' pictures and pho-to-graphs. needless to say, it was spectacular. i mean, not everything it's chocked up to be, but still spectacular. it's a shame it was so effing cold that night, otherwise i'd have stayed out on the deck of the ship taking more pictures. or, at least getting a proper picture of "lady liberty" as they call her. well, the evening itself was spectacular as well.
there was delicious self-serve food, roast beef and chicken parmigiana and sauteed green beans, you know, the food du jour for the fancy. but more importantly, there was dancing. a decent-sized dancefloor and a middle aged, white dj to play middle of the road music that everyone- white, black, young, old- could dance to. i think the riskiest song he played was lean wit it rock wit it. oh, and how could i forget? he played crank that soulja boy, which in itself lets you know that i was feeling right at home. yes, i pulled the train of my silk, leopard print dress around my arm and criss-crossed my legs, snapped my fingers, and did all the other intricacies of the beloved crank that soulja boy. and what fun i had! my date, whose disdain for popular music (especially hip hop) was subdued for the evening, stood on the sidelines of the dancefloor, absorbing the step-by-step and watching in amusement as i stood among marines, holding my own to soulja boy's insistent instructions to "superman that ho". more importantly, they played 'shout'. yes, just like a scene from wedding crashers, we all jumped and threw our hands in the air, girls holding up the strapless bodices of their semi-formal gowns, me holding my train to keep all those heels and uniform shoes from tearing the seams.

yes, it was a fun evening, indeed.

nothing else really worth noting has happened in the last few weeks. perhaps i'll post more if i think of something funny to say, but for now this will have to suffice.

oh, one more thing..

i'm aware that everyone and their cottage cheese-and-fruit eating grannies have seen this, but i'm posting it anyway. unlike 'shoes', i'm not even that crazy about the song. it's the dialogue leading up to the song that tickles my fancy. hilarious. not familiar with 'shoes'? click here . not a fan of 'shoes'? promptly leave my blog before i have to betchslap you, shetbag.

"last time i checked, we're in the u.s. and in the u.s., we clearly speak english. that language, i don't understand. and therefore, it makes me angry." enjoy.

love.

I see you've integrated "really?" into your conversational jargon. This pleases me.
