welcome to another saturday at work with kristena.
yes, it's another sunny saturday in screwston, texas and i'm at work, which means i'm sitting behind my semicirclar desk of sheer joy repeating "it's a new day at DBFCJ. how may i direct your call?" for every person in the screw[hou]ston metro area who can't seem to read a simple flyer [which CLEARLY states that the 'scratch n win' promotion ended LAST MONDAY] but can somehow manage enough literacy to discern the phone number listed on said flyer and use it to call ME and ask me a million ridiculous questions that could've been answered by reading-- you guessed it-- THE SAME DAMN FLYER. oh, the glory of saturday. for those of you who are slightly familiar with the thrilling world of my place of business, saturday means three things: 1)there will be barbecue, 2)i get to wear jeans [with heels and a cute cardigan, of course, because casual saturday does not equal sloppy saturday], and 3)i work the ENTIRE all-day shift by myself. thaaaat's right, eleven and a half hours. all of this means, just in case you were wondering, that the highlight of my day [so far] has been the five clementines that i inhaled the sweet, citrus-y nectar from around lunchtime and listening to the satellite radio the dealership invests in each month. satellite radio that is piping "hey mickey" throughout the dealership [and not even in a cute, campy way], resting only long enough for fifteen second recorded speeches about the reliability of the "new, redesigned chrysler sebring" and the year of free oil changes that you can get if you just "ask your salesperson about the customer convenience package today!" yes, it is an exciting and fast-paced life i lead.
on the upside, business has been slow enough to grant me the time and concentration to observe the height-to-weight ratio on the driver's licenses of the customers that i have to pull ofac reports for. [an ofac report, for all you poor, unfortunate non-car business peeps, is the sheet of paper i print out from the national databse of the terrorist watch list. we have to scan the license of every customer who buys a car to make sure we aren't enabling terrorists by selling them chrysler crossfire convertibles or four-door jeep wranglers.]
lucky for me, i legitimately like the people i work with. the salespeople are cool [a few of them comprising a significant portion of my über-exclusive group of mid-twentysomething friends.. i know, i'm soooo tragically cool], the managers are all nice and avuncular [it being noteworthy that the general manager a.k.a. the BIG boss is my dad], and the owner is hilarious. all-in-all, it's a pretty sweet place to work. it's just that, and i may seem contradtictory in saying this because i'm always the gal barking about a need for more consistency and routine, I AM SICK AND TIRED OF SAYING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AND OVER. i'm afraid that, pretty soon, i'm going to start answering my treo "it's a new day on kristena's cell phone. how may i direct your call?" it just ain't right, you know what i'm sayin'?
the one thing i've been reminding myself of all day, which actually serves as a bittersweet motivator, is that i get to go home to my main man, michael douglas. the reason i say "bittersweet" though is because he leaves tomorrow. yes, our visit, which can only be described as 'scrumtrulescent' must come to and end, and tomorrow is that ill-fated day. on a positive note, though, we have had an AH-MAZING visit. SB2K8 was a smashing success, from start to finish. tuesday through saturday at my humble abode in screwston was fine [even though i worked EVERY ONE of those days] because the future mr. kristena ducre got to meet ronniemandingo, my dad and brother [and those other people who take up space in my house these days a.k.a. dad's girlfriend and her two cutie-patootie kids], which made me happyhappyhappy. austin [or pflugerville, rather] amounted to nothing less than stratorspheric levels of fun with my wife [a.k.a. BFFL keri] and my future husband [a.k.a. you-know-who]. we watched the city lights from atop mount bonnel [and, in a sickeningly adorable turn of events, reconciled after a particularly nasty "tense conversation" about.. what else, but the "horrific" music that keri and i listened to in the car whenever the terrific trio, as i've started to affectionate refer to us as, went anywhere] we made cupcakes, i cooked copious amounts of HOMEMADE [ah, thank you] food, the likes of which michael douglas may never have the chance to enjoy again [unless i decide to grace him with my culinary delights again, that is], and we watched movies and family guy dvds until we were blue in the face.
yes, all in all, it was a MUCH NEEDED, relaxing, relationship-reaffirming vacation. definitely one for the scrapbook, as evidenced by the absurd pictures we took at the most awkward and dissheveled moments. haven't brushed your teeth yet? CLICK. hair a mess because you washed it last night but haven't flat-ironed it yet? CLICK. keri and kristena in pajamas? CLICK.
and now that i've applied and re-applied my makeup at least three times throughout the day [you know, to keep my complexion looking fresh and my lips dewy in this harsh fluorescent dealership lighting], where's the camera?
i'm ready for my closeup, mr. deville.
just an fyi.. the satellite radio is now playing 'another one bites the dust' by queen. don't let the freddie mercury fool you, though. a few minutes ago, i heard "can't get enough of your love" by bad company. it's a tradeoff.
on the plus side: only two more hours to go..
22 March 2008
it's a new the same damn day..
